What are audio fades?

Audio fades gradually increase (fade in) or decrease (fade out) volume at the beginning or end of a track. They create smooth transitions, prevent abrupt starts/stops, and add professional polish to recordings.

What is the difference between fade shapes?

Linear fades have constant volume change rate. Exponential (exp) fades start slow and accelerate, creating more natural-sounding fades. Logarithmic (log) fades start fast and decelerate. Exponential is most commonly used for music.

How long should my fades be?

Typical fade-ins are 1-3 seconds for music, 0.5-1 second for podcasts. Fade-outs are usually 3-5 seconds for songs, 1-2 seconds for speech. Longer fades (5-10s) work for ambient music or crossfades.

Can I apply both fade in and fade out?
