What is pitch shifting?

Pitch shifting changes the pitch (highness or lowness) of audio without affecting its speed. Each semitone is one note on a piano. +12 semitones raises by one octave, -12 semitones lowers by one octave.

What are semitones?

A semitone is the smallest interval in Western music - the distance between adjacent piano keys. 12 semitones = 1 octave. Common shifts: ±1-2 semitones for subtle changes, ±5-7 semitones for different keys, ±12 semitones for octave shifts.

Will pitch shifting affect audio quality?

Pitch shifting can introduce artifacts, especially with extreme shifts (±8 semitones or more). Small shifts (±1-3 semitones) usually sound natural. Vocals and monophonic instruments shift better than complex mixes.

Can I transpose a song to a different key?

Yes! If you want to sing a song in your range, shift by semitones. For example, to transpose from C major to D major, shift +2 semitones. To go from G to F, shift -2 semitones.
